That is the most poignant commentary I have heard yet. I've been thinking a lot and talking with my wife about the nation of Canada, redemptive analogies and the birth of the nation etc. But you may have something there. If the nation of Canada is dying, then new nations will surely be born. There are interesting days ahead. When is the next federal election?Pashahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04017757898166097587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30837758.post-63368698219660017672007-03-18T10:26:00.000+07:002007-03-18T10:26:00.000+07:00I've read that all true countries are birthed by w...I've read that all true countries are birthed by war. I've also heard it said that Canada was "born" during World War 1, but I don't know much about it. I also think that Canada as we have known it is dying a slow death from the current culture wars.

BTW, Canada still has two veterans alive from WW1 (they're both over 100). A third died last month; I think he was 112 or something like that.Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07535733099980232296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30837758.post-62279916635758947122007-03-17T17:04:00.000+07:002007-03-17T17:04:00.000+07:00Dear Fish in a Barrel,I don't usually enter into d...Dear Fish in a Barrel,

I don't usually enter into debate with people, especially strangers. Yes I have seen people healed. But this is really off topic. If you have comments related to Oral storytelling, The Aussie Bible or ANZAC, then please leave them. The issue of healing however is a red herring and was a side comment for friends of mine in Australia that I know read my blog.

I hope this is ok with you.Pashahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04017757898166097587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30837758.post-2247302610555690142007-03-17T08:06:00.000+07:002007-03-17T08:06:00.000+07:00Have you ever seen an instant, complete, miraculou...Have you ever seen an instant, complete, miraculous healing? If it is, then I am happy to be an outcast from the club! If it is heretical to take seriously the command of Jesus to "heal the sick, cleanse the leper, raise the dead, cast out demons" then I will take my chance with this "heresy" rather than risk turning my back on the words of our Saviour.

I appreciate the commitment of most evangelicals and the good works that many do, and I figure that at the end of the day, the love of Christ that is infinitely stronger than the sum total of all our human wills can, and will, unite us all under the one umbrella of God's boundless love.

With loving thoughts!

Tony L.Grateful2God...!https://www.blogger.com/profile/05311543284488248317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30837758.post-39874135539083198342007-03-09T20:09:00.000+07:002007-03-09T20:09:00.000+07:00Hi Tony. Thanks for your comments.Let me respond ...Hi Tony. Thanks for your comments.

Let me respond on a few levels. Firstly I also believe in the healing power of God. I guess what disappoints me is that some people use the Bible as a formulaic way of meeting their needs, be that in the area of health or finances.
It is my desire that people would know the great Creator God of the universe and his desire for close friendship with us. Our greatest purpose is to worship God through Jesus Christ. But God is not some lollypop machine that we go to when we have trouble.
The health and wealth gospel is a very real phenomenon in the west and not just the west now, it exists in many countries. Sadly many people are turning to God because they think that by doing so they will get the money they need or be healed from their sickness. They are seeking a temporary solution to their problems, when God can often them so much more in his eternal solutions. (Even though God does bless people, people are not always healed and do not always receive the material things that they need.)

I am not even saying that people who hold health and wealth doctrines are not Christians. (I am not the judge.) But I am saying that it is a dangerous distraction from the true reasons we should worship God.
I hear what you are saying that Christian Science does not fit in to the "wealth" framework that modern preachers like Benny Hinn or Kenneth Copeland promote. I am saying that E.W.Kenyon drew his ideas from Mary Baker Eddy and Phineas Quimby.
Make of that what you will. I am not a Christian Scientist. I am aware that you are. By blog is not here to attack Christian Science per se. But many evangelicals, of which I am one will come up with a myriad of arguments why they consider the teachings of Christian Science to be heretical.
The health and wealth doctrine has its dangers and Christian Science has others.

I hope you enjoy the Aussie Bible, you can order it through their website.Pashahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04017757898166097587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30837758.post-72092703936676125642007-03-09T17:50:00.000+07:002007-03-09T17:50:00.000+07:00Thanks for news of the Aussie Bible, that sounds f...Thanks for news of the Aussie Bible, that sounds fascinating. My wife is from Geelong, so I have passed along the Age article URL to her so she can check it out. Hopefully we can get a copy of it here in the UK, too.

Just a word on Christian Science...it doesn't fit at all into a "health and wealth" framework. It does, however, pinpoint the healing aspect of the work of Jesus and his promise that his followers would do likewise. I have had many healings through the light that Mary Baker Eddy's books throw onto the Scriptures. I am very grateful for that...but I am not excatly (materially) rich as a result of it - although definitely enriched spiritually! :)

I have, too, had a couple of experiences of prayer opening the way to needed supply in times of challenge, for which I have been grateful...but that is toitally in line with the Bible and the outcome of the prayers of prophets such as Moses, Elijah and Elisha, as well as Jesus himself. Above all else, I love Christian Science for its Christianity...liberating the heart to love better, as Jesus taught us to do.

All the best.

Tony L.Grateful2God...!https://www.blogger.com/profile/05311543284488248317noreply@blogger.com
